    That’s a completely rational notion

There was literally an entire infamous case of a woman, Lynndie England, who took pictures of herself humiliating torture victims at abu ghraib. Bolivia has a cis woman fascist dictator literally right now who is engaging in wholesale massacres of indigenous protestors. vladtheunfollower remains completely deranged and i feel that by 2021 her blog will be melting down about how the penoid males are creating roko’s basilisk in the basement of a D.C. pizzeria.

This reminds me when some TERFs tried to cite fucking horrific anti-Palestinian violence as an example of the “male fandom” and claimed Israeli rightwing women in power and the IDF were theoretical:

    Truly unhinged!

what struck me as particularly unhinged about that whole thing (and like, the whole thing was already horrifying) was this part

like, not only does this shit-for-brains think that cis women are fundamentally incapable of engaging in settler colonialist violence to the point of describing female israeli far-righters as a completely hypothetical population, they also immediately double down with what’s literally bullshit nationalist talking points about how even if these women were to exist (which haha they dont because cis women are pure angels uwu) it would be justified because they believe their way of life is being defended by the most violent arm of settler colonialism. It’s literally like “far-right women don’t exist, and if they exist they have a right to because far-right talking points are worthy of respect if its women following them”.

literally just doubling down and down and down on this fundamental inability to see cis women as anything besides more or less children who cannot be anything but innocent at all times. all these mental gymnastics just boiling down to “i cannot not be a good person because i’m a female“.

Every so often, I remember that like 80% of Tumblr (myself included) was completely enraptured by a show where the big twist was that the main character forgot his childhood friend was murdered by his sister, and for some reason only remembers his childhood friend ever existing as a dog.

And in that same episode it’s revealed that the same sister…..like…..hypnotized (?) the main character’s arch rival into hating him by, like, staring at him for a few minutes.

In our collective defense, this is when we all decided “hey we should probably stop watching Sherlock”

The flip side of “cleanse diets don’t do anything” is that if you tried a cleanse diet and you did experience a notable reduction in fatigue, joint pain, and general blarginess, you need to talk to an allergy specialist, because there’s nearly a 100% chance that means you have an undiagnosed allergy to some component of your customary diet.

This is an excellent point and I’d imagine there’s a lot of quack diets that continue circulating and getting press based on this exact principle.

Absolutely – a great many diets of the “stop eating everything except these three foods” variety are 100% trading on the fact that they’re practically guaranteed to generate some positive testimonials by virtue of coincidentally cutting somebody’s undiagnosed food allergy out of their diet.

i didn’t take refuge in “not like other girls” thinking as a kid — i was too laser-focused on trying (and failing) to be normal — but i was mercilessly bullied for being different, a wrong kind of girl. and i know that sure, we all agree bullying is wrong. but i virtually never see that behavior identified as misogynist. i don’t see popular internet posts asking women to examine why they mocked and shunned other girls in school for being the wrong kind of girl, and what that might say about how they view women. i very much doubt anyone has ever sat down one of my bullies and said of their bullying, “your internalized misogyny is showing.” i had and have internalized misogyny too; we all do. i just want to see as much attention to the “you’re not like us” form as i see for the “i’m not like you” form.

shoutout to people who cant/wont turn in their abusers because

    • they dont have proof of abuse
    • abusers were upstanding members of society
    • their abuse was legal
    • no one believes them
    • their abusers are old, dead, disabled, ill, or on their deathbed
    • their abusers are family members
    • they cant remember details of abuse
    • they didnt uncover abuse until later in life
    • they were abused by organizations
    • they dont know the names of thier abusers
    • theyve been threatened into staying quiet
    • they arent mentally stable enough to endure the investigation

and whatever other reason. people dont have to turn in their abusers for their abuse to be legitimate. so many of us cant prove what happened to us and are only left with the disorders that came with the horror we dealt with growing up.

it makes me sad that im seeing so many trauma survivors feel that they have to justify not taking abusers to court. some of us cant, some of us shouldnt, and some of us wont. please respect all survivors regardless of how they approach legal justice over abuse.
